A Dream Honeymoon

Oliver and Roxann met in 2013 and got engaged whilst on a Broom Boating Holiday. We were delighted when they mentioned they would love to spend their honeymoon on the Broads, and set about arranging a beautiful autumnal holiday for them to create some treasured memories.

Oliver and Roxann met back in 2013 when Oliver moved from Yorkshire to Lancashire for work. They share a love of the outdoors and when Oliver introduced Roxann to boating holidays on the Norfolk Broads which he’d enjoyed as a child, she too fell under the spell of our region’s magical waterways.

During a holiday with us onboard a Broom Skipper in June 2016 the couple got engaged and we featured their story on this news blog. When we saw them again they mentioned that their wedding plans had commenced and that they were thinking of taking their honeymoon on the Broads as it was a very special place for them. When they got in touch to check dates with us it was a very easy decision for us to offer them their honeymoon onboard a Broom Captain as our wedding gift.

Oliver and Roxann got married on 30 October 2017 at the Yorebridge House Hotel in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The following day this beautiful photo popped into our inbox with the message – see you soon!

Whilst they were busy packing and making the trip down from Lancashire, we set about decorating the boat for their arrival. Some natural rose petals (anything that is at risk of blowing into the water needs to be biodegradable), a bottle of Prosecco and a luxury artisan hamper full of delicious snacks and all the ingredients they would need for a good English breakfast.

The newlyweds collected Captain 9 from us and cruised someway down the River Yare before choosing moorings for the evening. Their first full day took them across Breydon Water and down to St Benet’s Abbey and an early start the following day took them down to the new moorings at Cockshoot Dyke. Day 3 involved a visit to Horning for a browse and a coffee before heading to the River Ant and the spot where Oliver proposed back in 2013. The couple then left the Northern Broads and headed to Herringfleet for their last night. Before returning to Brundall they took the opportunity to call in at Loddon, a charming Broads village they had not visited before. During their holiday Oliver and Roxann reported five separate sightings of Kingfishers in various spots and took some beautiful photographs for inclusion into their wedding and honeymoon albums. The tranquil Norfolk Broads in Autumn provided the perfect relaxing honeymoon and a chance to reflect upon their wonderful wedding day.

Always planning their next trip, they tell us their first visit in 2018 will take in Oulton Broad and Beccles. We look forward to seeing Mr & Mrs Skinner again soon!
