We were thrilled to discover that ‘Jenny Wren’ has been shortlisted in the ‘powered vessels under 40ft’ category in the prestigious Classic Boat magazine awards. It is the 10th anniversary of the awards and there are some really fantastic classic boats included in the shortlist, what a fitting tribute to this fantastic little craft!
When we set about restoring the boat it was purely to showcase the craftsmanship of the team here, and demonstrate to customers how an older boat can really be brought back to life; not only to be functional, but beautifully contemporary too. You can read all about the restoration project here. ‘Jenny Wren’ became the face of our newly formed Heritage division which launched last year, and she was unveiled by BBC Radio Norfolk presenter Wally Webb at the Broom Boat Show. She spent the summer on the water in Brundall and made guest appearances at a couple of boat shows on the Thames. People loved coming to see her and talking to the team about the work undertaken, but never did we expect to be shortlisted for an award! Not only is this a great achievement for the team here at Broom Marine Services, it is testament to their hard work and commitment that the project ran smoothly (whilst juggling lots of other projects) and that the end result was a much admired boat. It is also a celebration of Broom’s heritage and history in building timber built boats, and the boatbuilding team that would have laid those original planks back in 1957.
Voting is open until 15th March, with the winners being announced in the May issue of the magazine. If you would like to vote for ‘Jenny Wren’ then you can do so online here.
