boat transportation hoist at Broom

Moving boats comes with the territory and we’ve moved a few over the years. Boat transportation is much easier and quicker than it was, thanks to improved road systems and equipment. But moving boats across the UK or further afield still requires coordination and good preparation to ensure your boat arrives safely.

We work with trusted boat transportation partners

You wouldn’t trust your boat to just anyone and neither would we. Broom Boats works with specialist and experienced boat transportation companies to ensure your boat is in the best and most capable hands.

On-site hoist for boats up to 35 tons

We can lift boats up to 35 tons at our Brundall marina using our on-site hoist. However, not all marinas or boat yards have hoists of this capacity.

Earlier this year we arranged transportation for Sea Lark, Broom 30from its home on the Thames to Brundall for repairs and maintenance. The marina didn’t have a big enough hoist so we first had the boat towed to another boat yard where it could be hoisted onto a low loader.

Preparing your boat for transport

Before your boat is moved it’s important to stow loose items. We’ll make sure that all items like exterior covers, fenders, ropes, and all interior items are properly secured and that all lids and hatches are closed to prevent water damage.

When we transported Seraphina, a Broom 450, from Brundall to Ireland we also had to remove the props and rudders. This meant we could get her under the required height for transportation. If your boat’s loaded height exceeds 13’6” or is more than 8’6” wide, you’ll need a specific transporter. Wider boats will also need an accredited escort.

Boat shrink wrapping

Shrink wrapping is a popular option for boat owners. In addition to removing the props and rudders from Seraphina we wrapped the cockpit.

Shrink wrapping provides an additional layer of protection for your boat. It keeps the wet out of the cockpit or lazarette. It also keeps the boat clean and free from debris, as many marinas have trees to negotiate.
