Top 10 Norfolk Broads outdoor adventure experiences
All activities listed below are accessible via boat and then on foot, bike, or a short taxi ride. Please ensure you check opening times and restrictions before your holiday.
1. Watch Powerboat racing at Oulton Broad
Watching powerboats is an activity that kids will remember for a long time afterwards. The Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club meet each Thursday evening through the summer. You may even catch the British Championships if you’re holidaying during July.
2. Hire a canoe or SUP from Whitlingham Adventure Centre
Whitlingham Broad and Adventure Centre has much to offer, including canoe and stand up padddleboarding, a café, and walks around the broad.
3. TheCanoeMan Norwich and Beccles
If you’d rather canoe or try stand up paddleboarding on the open river, you can hire from TheCanoeMan from seven locations on the Broads. You can also book other adventure experiences, including bushcraft, fungi foraging, and guided trails.
4. Tubing at Norfolk Snow Sports
Feel the excitement of speeding down the slope from the comfort of an inflatable tube; no experience or snow needed. Children must be aged 6 to take part. Ensure you have the correct clothing before booking.
There’s a saying among the locals that Norfolk is flat until you get on a bike! Plan your own route or choose from one of the marked cycle routes around the Norfolk Broads area. Broom Boats do not have bike racks, but you can book a fold-up bike when booking your holiday or by contacting us directly.
6. Great Yarmouth seafront
Great Yarmouth seafront is bustling in the summer with visitors. There’s plenty to do, including crazy golf, and rides and attractions at the Pleasure Beach.
7. Horse Riding on Pakefield Beach
Book a 1-hour ride on the beach or a 30-minute hack through the woods (longer hacks upon request). Pakefield Riding School can accommodate all experience levels.
8. Outdoor swimming at Beccles Lido
Beccles Lido is an alternative way to cool down if you don’t fancy a swim in the river. The Main Pool has a 3.7-metre deep end with a springboard and a slide. The Toddler Pool is 0.75 metres deep, and the adjoining Splash Pool is 0.27-metres deep. All pools are heated to 28°C in the summer season.
9. Go-karting at Ellough Raceway
Ellough is a little further from the river, so you’ll need to moor up at Beccles Quay and book a taxi to Ellough (around 10 mins). You can book karting sessions in 15-minute slots. Children must be over eight years old.
10. Parachuting at Ellough
Fancy something a bit more thrilling? A short way up the road from Ellough Raceway is UK Parachuting. Pre-booking is essential, and jumps are dependent on weather conditions.
Something a bit slower
There are also more relaxing things to see and do on a Norfolk Broads holiday. Take it easy and enjoy the beautiful countryside, spot rare wildlife and plants along its banks, or discover the area’s history.
